The Sportsmen Against Hunger Program was established by Safari Club International to feed those who have difficulty feeding themselves. The Sportsmen Against Hunger Program meets this need with donations of wild game harvested by sportsmen. David Baker directed the Sportsmen Against Hunger Program with great success for many years in the 1990’s. Due to economic times, Carl Hilbert decided to re-establish the program in 2009 during his time as President of the Pittsburgh Chapter.
Since 2009, the Sportsmen Against Hunger Program has generated an average of 1,200 pounds of donated wild game for food shelters and the needy. The Chapter also participates in Humanitarian Dinners at local shelters using donated game meat. All the other ingredients and sides for these dinners are donated by our volunteers. The participating deer processors are valued in the success of this charitable program. They help promote the program and process the game.
Wild game donations can be made by contacting one of the participating processors listed below. We accept all types of wild game including fish, game birds and western species of large and small game. We encourage all SCI members and their friends that are successful during the hunting seasonto share some of their good fortune with those who are hungry. We are always looking for new processor recruits, so if you have a favorite processor who is interested in joining the program or you have any other questions about the program, contact Barb Baker at firstname.lastname@example.org or 724.513.7405
